A kayak is a small, narrow watercraft which is generally propelled by a double-bladed paddle. The term kayak derived from the Greenlandic word qajaq.
The traditional kayak is equipped with a covered deck and one or more cockpits, each of which seats one paddler. The cockpit is sometimes covered by a spray deck that prevents the entry of water from waves or sprayand distinguishing the craft from a canoe. The spray deck allows competent kayakers to roll the kayak, capsize and right it without filling with water or ejecting the paddler.
